Week 4

 1. Pratical

Blending Mode Exercise

Mr. Martin teach us about blending mode. We need two layer for blending mode, it is like combining two images as one according to different conditions. These are the exercises we did during the practical session.

Figure 1.0 Girl with cofee

Figure 1.1 Steam

1. Copy and paste the photo of steam to girl with coffee.
2. Apply 'Screen' blending more in figure 1.1.
3. Create a new adjustment layer with the gradient tool.
4. Apply 'Screen' blending mode and adjust the opacity to 20%.

Final outcome

Flock of birds at seaside

Figure 1.3 Seaside

Figure 1.4 Flock of Birds

1. Select the flock of birds with lasso tool. Copy selection.
2. Paste the selection into the seaside photo and apply "Multiply" blending mode.
3. Create new adjustment layer, apply Level and create a Clipping mask.
4. Adjust the colour and move to the left side.
5. Create new adjustment layer, apply "Gradient"
6. Apply "Multiply" Blending mode.

Final outcome

Girl with Vignette Effect

Figure 1.6 Girl

1. Duplicate the girl photo.
2. Apply softlight mode to increase the photo contrast.

Project 1 Exercise 2 Part 2: Cowboy in sunset.

Mr. Martin gave us a task, that is to place the cowboy in the house and sunset as the background.

Figure 1.8 House

Figure 1.9 Cowboy

Figure 2.0 Sunset

1. Mask the house with Quick Selection Tool and paste it to Figure 2.0.

Figure 2.1

2. Adjust the size and position of the house. Match the colour of the house to the sunset background.

Figure 2.2

3. Add cowboy to Figure 2.2. Adjust the size and position of the cowboy.

Final outcome

2. Lecture

Match lighting, adjustment layers, filters.

Mr. Fauzi teach us how to match the lighting, adjust layers and apply filters. We learnt stacking adjustment layer, that is use multiple adjustment layers stacked on top of one another.
Use blend modes and opacity to get even more from adjustment layers.

3. Tutorial

Mr. Fauzi assigned us to do three compositions using the images provided. We need to write a simple explanation about the composition.

COMPOSITION #1:

Reflective Writing:

For this composition, I did sky replacement by using ‘Select and Mask’.

The sky of the building _01 picture is replaced by the sky of the people_2.

I adjust the color and saturation of the building to match the sky color.

I added a moon by cutting the moon out from the original photo by using Magic Wand Tool.

I apply a new layer and decrease the opacity of the moon, as the sky is still bright,

the moon should be looking faded.

COMPOSITION #2:

Reflective Writing:

I use the original moon photo as the background for this composition.

I cut out the astronaut from the original photo by using Quick Selection Tool.

I decrease the size of the astronauts as they are far from the moon.

A spaceship is added to the composition as it is approaching the moon.

It is cut out by Quick Selection Tool too.

Both the color of astronauts and spaceship are adjust to match the color of the moon.

COMPOSITION #3:

Reflective Writing:

For this composition, I use the original photo of the mountain as the background.

Three trees are added into the photo and it is seen as black color because the sun is too bright.

People_1 is added into the photo by using blending mode.

The people layer is on the multiply mode, to remove the white color part.
